Kik Messaging & Chat App

Kik Messenger is an anonymous chat product similar to AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger. Users have a unique identifier, known as a "handle," that is used to give out to strangers as a place where they can. Most information that is sent through the service is deleted as soon as it is delivered. It is 18+, and we strongly recommend that you not allow your child to use it. It has, on many occasions, been used to "groom" children met online by predators leading up to child sexual assaults and other heinous child sex crimes.
A child needing a Kik account is like a child needing a different phone number for certain strangers. They don't need one. They should just give out a fake one and leave. Children may have a hard time understanding why you don't want them to have this app, but if you do a quick web search on 'Kik Child Rape' or 'Kik Child Sexual Assault' you will get lots of examples of why you should hold the line here. You should also review our parents' guides on bullying, sexting, adult content and meeting strangers. Based on the nature of the conversations your child has been having on Kik, you may need to involve law enforcement to protect your child.
